Now that YSTV users no longer have access to Dropbox, the Computing Team would like to encourage you to use the more secure method described below. This will also allow you to access your files on any machine with an internet connection.

Method

  1. Create a folder in your home directory on a YSTV PC (the H: drive in Windows, or /home/yourusername in Unix) called www.
  2. Save a file within this folder. This will then appear on the YSTV website at http://ystv.co.uk/~yourusername/.
  3. To retrieve the file, simply type the following URL into the address bar in your web browser: ystv.co.uk/~yourusername/ (replace yourusername with your YSTV login username e.g. 'jane.doe'). This will show a list of all the files saved in the www folder in your home directory.
  4. Right click the name of the file you wish to download and choose Save Target As... (or, depending on your browser, Save Link As...). In the file save window choose a destination and then click 'Save'. The file will be downloaded to this destination.

Notes

  • Please note that you will not be able to save any changes you have made to the file back onto the website unless you are inside YSTV and logged into one of the PCs, as otherwise you cannot access your home directory!
  • If you simply wish to view the file, left click the file name and choose 'Open'. This will open a preview of the file in your web browser, but you will also not be able to make any changes.
  • This process will only work for users who have their own YSTV account, and have access to Webmail. If you do not have your own account, please contact the Computing Team.

If you have any questions please feel free to email the Computing Team at computing.team@ystv.co.uk.
